Seattle traffic has a reputation, and it’s earned: a narrow city squeezed between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, a handful of bridges, and highways that carry most of the region’s traffic. Professional chauffeurs drive these roads every day. Here’s how we plan around them, and how you can time your next trip.
Know the pinch points
- I-5 through downtown is the region’s spine and slows down in both directions during commute hours.
- I-405 on the Eastside connects Renton, Bellevue, Kirkland and Bothell, with express toll lanes that can save time at peak hours.
- SR-520 and I-90 are the two bridges across Lake Washington. SR-520 is tolled, and a slowdown on either one spills onto the other.
- SoDo and the stadiums back up on game and concert days at Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park, and so does Seattle Center around Climate Pledge Arena.
Plan by the clock
Weekday mornings and late afternoons are the slowest times on most routes. A trip from Bellevue to Sea-Tac that takes about 30 minutes at midday can take an hour at 5 p.m. We schedule pickups from the real travel time for your day and hour, not the best case.
Watch the event calendar
A Seahawks, Mariners, Sounders or Kraken game, or a big concert, changes traffic across downtown and around Seattle Center for hours before and after. Our dispatch team checks the event calendar for every booking near the stadiums or Seattle Center, and we adjust the route or pickup time. Going to the event yourself? See our game day and concert car service.
Use real-time information
Chauffeurs combine live traffic data with local knowledge: which surface streets move when I-5 stops, when the express lanes are worth it, and where to stage near a busy venue without circling. For airport pickups, real-time flight tracking means we plan around your actual landing time.
Build in a buffer
Our chauffeurs arrive at least 15 minutes before every pickup. For flights, we recommend leaving enough time to arrive at Sea-Tac two hours before domestic departures and three hours before international ones, more during holidays and summer cruise weekends.
Typical drive times from Sea-Tac
These are the times we plan around in normal traffic. Rush hour, game days and busy cruise mornings add more.
- Downtown Seattle: about 14 miles, usually 20 to 35 minutes. SeaTac to downtown Seattle
- Bellevue: usually 25 to 40 minutes. SeaTac to Bellevue
- Redmond and Kirkland: usually 30 to 45 minutes. SeaTac to Redmond and SeaTac to Kirkland
- The cruise piers: usually 30 to 45 minutes to Pier 66 or Pier 91. Seattle cruise transportation
- Everett: about an hour.
Cruise mornings
In summer, Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days at both cruise terminals, and the streets around Pier 66 and Pier 91 slow down as passengers arrive and leave. We schedule cruise pickups with that in mind, and our 30 minutes of free wait time at the terminal covers a slow luggage hall on the way home.
When an hourly booking beats one-way rides
On a day with several stops across Seattle and the Eastside, traffic between meetings is hard to predict. With hourly service the same chauffeur stays with you and waits at each stop, so there’s no waiting for a new car while the clock runs. The minimum booking is 2 hours for sedans, 3 hours for SUVs and 4 hours for Sprinter vans. Private driver service
Tips for your next Seattle trip
- Avoid booking tight connections between Eastside meetings and downtown dinners during the evening commute.
- For early flights, book ahead. Your chauffeur will be waiting, even at 4 a.m.
- Tell us about events you’re attending so we can plan pickup spots away from closed streets.
- Use the ride: a chauffeured car turns traffic time into time for calls, email or rest.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get from downtown Seattle to Sea-Tac?
About 14 miles, usually 20 to 35 minutes, and longer during weekday rush hours or big events.
Do you charge more for traffic?
No. Point-to-point rides have a flat, all-inclusive price that doesn’t change with traffic.
What happens on game days?
We plan routes and pickup points around road closures. Pickups at the venue itself are billed hourly, because chauffeurs must arrive early and wait through security and closures.
When do I get my chauffeur’s details?
Your chauffeur is assigned 24 hours before your pickup, and you get their name and phone number by text.
What if I’m running late at pickup?
Free wait time is 15 minutes at most pickups, 30 minutes at the cruise terminals, and 30 or 45 minutes after a domestic or international flight reaches the gate. After that, waiting is $1 per minute.
Can I add a stop on the way?
Yes. Each extra stop is $20, and you can add it when you book.
